Rep. Josh Siegel intends to run for Lehigh County executive in 2025, he said on Wednesday.
Siegel said he will formally announce his campaign in December because his focus is on electing Democrats in November and defeating former President Donald Trump. He is the first candidate who has publicly signaled his intent to enter the race.
He said he looks forward to discussing his goals and priorities for the executive position, “but obviously, that’s for next year.”
Siegel is a Democrat and former Allentown City Council member who defeated Republican Robert E. Smith Jr. in 2022 to represent the 22nd House District, which encompasses Allentown and Salisbury Township.
If elected, he would begin a four-year term in 2026. He would replace Democrat Phillips Armstrong, who is term limited after serving two terms since 2018.
