A woman was hit by gunfire after two men started shooting at each other Wednesday morning near two Allentown schools and a church, according to new details contained in search warrants filed by police.
The shooting took place in a parking lot across from the Cathedral of Saint Catharine of Siena on the 200 block of North 18th Street, police said in an affidavit. That parking lot also sits across Turner Street from Allen High School, where a security camera captured the shooting on video, according to police. A second school, St. John Vianney Regional School, is located next to the church.
Police were called to the parking lot just before 8:40 a.m. Wednesday. Investigators found a woman had been shot in the leg. She was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, and her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, police said.
The suspects, both adult males, were identified in the warrants. СŷƵ is not identifying them at this time since they have not been charged.
According to court documents:
An officer reviewing video from a security camera at Allen High School found footage showing the shooting.
The officer recognized the identities of the alleged shooters, and found one of their listed addresses was on the 1700 block of Chew Street, just around the corner from where the shooting took place. That information was relayed to patrol units at the shooting scene. In the video, the man was last seen running on North 18th Street, heading to the residence.
Patrol units went to the house and were told by a family member there that no one else was inside. However, a man matching his description was seen looking out of a third-floor window.
Police entered the house for a welfare check on the man, and took him into custody on the second floor. He was found with the lower portion of a Glock handgun.
A search of the house turned up the upper slide of the gun, a Glock magazine with 16 live rounds, and a bag with live ammunition. Also found were a bag of marijuana and a shoebox containing pressed pills and packing material.
The shooting Wednesday prompted a brief lockdown of Allen High School and Raub Middle School, which is several blocks away, according to an Allentown School District spokesperson.
The second suspect was also detained Wednesday, according to police. No charges have been filed as of Thursday afternoon.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact police at 610-437-7731.
