Sunshine and warmer weather are expected this week in the СŷƵ after the end of nearly the wettest May on record.
The local National Weather Service office in Mount Holly, New Jersey, is forecasting highs in the 80s Tuesday through Sunday this week.
Monday, which has an anticipated high of 73, will be the coolest day of the week. A high of 80 is expected Tuesday, and temperatures will reach nearly 90 by Thursday, according to forecasters.
Meteorologists with the local weather service office noted in that sunshine might be hazy Monday because of smoke from Canadian wildfires, but they noted they do not believe the smoke will reach the ground and cause air quality issues. Smoky skies could linger into next week, the weather service said.
Dry and sunny conditions are expected through most of the week, marking a big departure from last month, which ended up being nearly the wettest May on record for the region. The weather service recorded 10.45 inches of rain throughout the entire month, which is just .17 inches below the rainiest May on record, which was set at 10.62 in 1984.
