The СŷƵ could be in for some “hazy sunshine” and poor air quality as smoke from Canadian wildfires makes its way over the region this week.

The local National Weather Service office in Mount Holly, New Jersey, said the smoke will likely stay over the area Tuesday and could mix closer to the ground. Forecasters said it is not likely to have any significant impacts though.

, which tracks and displays air quality information from all of the country, said air quality will be moderate Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Air quality might deteriorate Tuesday as a thicker layer of smoke moves in, and some will mix toward the surface. Higher temperatures Wednesday and Thursday and stale recirculating smoke could bring ozone levels close to code orange range, which is unhealthy for sensitive groups, AirNow’s website states.

Two years ago, smoke from wildfires in Canada prompted air quality levels to reach hazardous levels, which is when the air quality index reaches 301 or greater.

The air quality should not be anywhere near that level the next few days. AirNow is expecting an air quality index of 60 Tuesday and 90 Wednesday. Those who are unusually sensitive to ozone should reduce their outdoor activity, according to AirNow.

Moderate air quality will linger into Friday, when showers and thunderstorms could come to the area.

The weather service said a cold front is coming to the area, with the potential for a heavy shower or downpour. Rain could continue into Saturday as well.

Sunday should be clear, with highs in the 70s. Rain could return again early next week.
