Easton’s Heritage Day will be held on Saturday, July 12, the first time in memory it will not be held on a Sunday.
But the fireworks display to close out the annual festival will be held shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday, July 13, Easton Mayor Sal Panto Jr. said Thursday.
“There seems to be a lot of confusion about the Heritage Day fireworks,” Panto said during a news conference giving a public update on downtown parking expansion plans. He said the fireworks will go off as planned, and they will be seen from “all over most of the city.”
City officials said the location of the fireworks will not be announced due to public safety concerns. In past years, they have been set off mostly along the Forks of the Delaware.
Easton’s Heritage Day, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. July 12, commemorates the city as one of the first places where the Declaration of Independence was read in 1776. It is a family event which showcases local history for adults, including the rereading of the document, food and activities for children.
