A longtime firefighter with Bethlehem Township Volunteer Fire Co. is being mourned.

The fire company said on social media Sunday that Michael Forstoffer, a 45-year member of the company, had died. He was 60.

He served multiple positions, including as a board member, fire lieutenant, fire captain and was a member of the Community Days Committee.

Township commissioner John Merhottein said Forstoffer was a “driving force” behind Community Days, which is an annual township festival hosted by the fire company. Merhottein said that Forstoffer dedicated “countless hours” to make sure everything ran smoothly.

“His legacy of service will not be forgotten,” Merhottein said in a statement on social media.

Forstoffer’s son, Michael Forstoffer Jr., in a post on Instagram said his father’s death was unexpected and is “leaving a huge void in our family.”

‘He will be truly missed and I will especially miss telling him the stories of the fires I run and hearing the stories of the fires he runs,” he said.

A celebration of life ceremony for Forstoffer will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the fire company headquarters at 1919 Eighth Street in Bethlehem Township. All who knew Forstoffer are welcome to attend, the company said.
