A pedestrian was fatally hit by a tractor-trailer early Sunday morning on Route 309 in Coopersburg, authorities said.
The 35-year-old man, from Lower Macungie Township, was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:25 a.m., according to Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio. The man was hit by the tractor-trailer around 3:25 a.m. in the 300 block of South Third Street, which carries the Route 309 designation, Buglio said.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning.
The man has been identified, but Buglio said he was withholding the name Sunday to allow the family time to grieve privately. The man’s identity will be released after the autopsy is completed.
Buglio said no additional information about the crash would be released Sunday. In addition to the coroner’s office, Coopersburg Police, the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office, and the Lehigh County Crash Team are investigating.
